Encircled by steep cliffs and a rocky peak, Saint Romain is one of the most ancient villages in the region.
It’s rock arena lies at the end of a deep valley cutting through the “côte” at the west of Meursault.
One reaches Saint Romain through a narrow passage. You will be impressed by the village’s spectacular site.
.
Numerous hiking trails will allow you to discover archeological sites as well as various points of outlook over the vineyards :
Trails GR 7 and GR 76 run through the village and provide an overall impression of the site .
The “trail of the rocks” (15 km) leads you to the castle of La Rochepot and back via the high cliffs of Orches and Saint Romain, passing by the medieval ruins of Dracy.
Trail Nr. 17 of the Beaune county network of hiking trails allows you to see the “Fairy chimneys”, the archeological site at the foot of the cliff, and the “Tartebouille” cavern.
Don’t miss to wander about the streets of the lower village against the background of the cliffs, and around the church of the upper village perched on a rocky prolongation with it’s ruins of the ancient castle.
